How It Works: Activated Alumina Technology
This pre-filter uses Activated Alumina, a high-surface-area material made from Aluminium Oxide (Al₂O₃), the same base mineral found in sapphires and rubies.

It’s created through a special process that makes it highly porous—over 200 m² of surface area per gram.

This surface area makes it highly effective at absorbing fluoride and arsenic from drinking water.
Is Activated Alumina Safe?

The aluminum in activated alumina is tightly bound in its oxide form and does not exist as free or reactive aluminum, which is the form associated with health concerns.

It’s chemically inert and does not dissolve or release aluminum into the water.
- Numerous studies and industry safety standards (including NSF/ANSI 61 for drinking water components) confirm that properly manufactured activated alumina is safe and does not pose a risk of aluminum leaching.
- Additionally, any potential trace residues are effectively captured by a secondary filtration stage—such as KDF media and carbon—as featured in the UltraStream system.
